ANN brings you the latest events from the Adventist community: The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) continues to expand its response to the current COVID-19 outbreak in India. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, a Missouri-based business, donated more than 430,000 US dollars to help with ADRA’s emergency operations in India. For weeks, the South Asian nation has been struggling with an unprecedented second outbreak that has overwhelmed hospitals and health facilities, killing more than 279,000 people and causing daily cases to surpass 4,000. Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds founder, Jere Gettle, felt compelled to respond to the crisis by donating all the proceeds of a recent four-day sale. It is to help ADRA supply life-saving oxygen generation systems and essential medical equipment to Adventist hospitals caring for critical COVID-19 patients in India. Three Adventist boys were found and rescued after being lost at sea for more than 50 hours in the South Pacific. The boys went missing in the waters off Mota Lava island in Vanuatu on Friday, May 14. The boys are 11, 14, and 16 and are Pathfinders who reportedly went fishing. Mental well-being has been a top priority for AdventHealth, as chaplains and clinical mission integration specialists extend resources to combat stress and burnout. The pandemic has made the demanding job of care providers even more challenging. The website sharinghope.com has been revamped and now offers an updated page with Adventist missionary books, children’s literature, and books by Ellen White in 13 languages — among them English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic. In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson is joined by Nancy Wilson to address a very important topic–children who are at risk, and what are some of the things we, as Christians, we can do to help them. As we all know, we live in a sinful, fallen world, and along with sin comes suffering. And of all the pain in this world, the most difficult and heart wrenching is when we see innocent children suffering. Thousands of children around the world are at risk. Many face abuses, neglect, hunger, trafficking to other countries, and much more. Children at risk need to be protected and helped so they can experience God's love and grow in His grace. They need our prayers. Children are very precious to God, and when Jesus was here on Earth, He showed a special interest and care for them. Furthermore, Jesus took very seriously the spiritual education and training of children and gave one of the strongest rebukes in the Bible against those who would lead His children astray. What can we do to help children? First of all, and very importantly, we can pray for them. Each year, the Adventist Children's Ministries department at the General Conference sponsors a World Day of Prayer for Children at Risk. This year, that special day is Sabbath, May 22. It is a day where Seventh-day Adventists of all ages set aside time to pray especially for the girls and boys who are suffering from various circumstances in which they find themselves through no fault of their own. While praying is vitally important, there are other actions we can take to help the most vulnerable among us. First, is to be aware. Are there children in your church, in your community, who might be in vulnerable situations? Be in tune and look for ways to show an extra measure of love and compassion toward them. Committed, godly Seventh-day Adventist Christians can have a profound impact on the life of a child or young person as they lead them to love Jesus and trust Him so completely that they feel free to talk with Him about anything that concerns them or brings them joy—to instill in them, that no matter what is causing them pain, they can share it with Jesus and He will understand. Take time to learn the names of the children and young people in your church. Show them you are truly interested in them by listening and encouraging them. Take time to pray with and for them, and teach them to build their faith upon the rock that is Jesus Christ and His mighty Word–the Bible! When we talk about our faith, we all have someone in mind, someone who has had a significant impact on our spiritual lives. Mark Finley, a Seventh-day Adventist evangelist and assistant to the World Church President, has a spiritual mentor. The faith that we see in this outstanding evangelist began with his father. He learned much of what he teaches in evangelism from his father. It includes how to form loving connections, find commonalities rather than starting arguments, earn the right to be heard, show respect, when and how to share your faith, and so on. Indeed, Mark Finley understands the formula for reaching out to and genuinely connecting with people. The covenant God formed with Israel at Sinai was a covenant of grace. Having given abundant evidence of His gracious love and care by an extraordinary deliverance from Egyptian slavery, God invited the nation into a covenant with Him that would maintain and promote their freedoms. Although Israel responded in the affirmative, they lacked a true faith motivated by love. Their later history indicates that, for the most part, they failed to understand the true nature of the covenant and corrupted it into a salvation-by-works system.
