Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Here in Kenya, there is a betting craze among the youth and adults alike. Many are participating in sports betting and lotteries in the hope of winning the elusive jackpot. In Genesis 36, we find a narration of the genealogy of Esau. Despite God having promised to multiply Jacob and to enrich him, Esau is the one who increases and is enriched first. The fulfillment of God's promise to Jacob began to appear later, but the effect of the blessing remained longer, and has its complete accomplishment in spiritual Israel. God promised Jacob that kings should come out of his loins (Gen. 35: 11), yet Esau's blood becomes royal long before any of Jacob's did. However, not much is mentioned about Esau’s lineage after the third and fourth generation. In Jacob's story we learn that however long it takes, God's word will be accomplished. The call to us is not to be distracted by the fleeting and temporary, nor to be discouraged by the perceived delay of the promise; but in all things to remain faithful. We can trust that God will complete the work in us and that he is not slack concerning his promise (Phil. 1:6, 2 Pet. 3:9)." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/36 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Genesis 35 shows three pictures of death as related to Deborah, Rachel and Isaac. Rebekah's nurse, Deborah, had faithfully been with her as they wandered from Mesopotamia to Canaan. Jacob and Rachel mourned her death as a loss of a family friend who had contributed so much to them. As a remembrance, her tomb under an oak at Bethel was called Allonbachuth, “the oak of weeping” (Genesis 35:8). A short time later, Rachel gave birth to her second son. But her gift to her beloved Jacob cost her life. Her dying name for the boy, Benoni,“son of my sorrow,”gave way to Jacob’s choice, Benjamin, “son of my strength.” The death of Rachel was to him a deep and heavy grief, one remembered as he lay on his own deathbed.
Isaac’s long life in Hebron was that of an outsider, just as Abraham’s life had been. But his 180 years was marked by obedience as much as by suffering and toil. He lived, astoundingly, to 180 years (Genesis 35:28). I think about these life endings found in the Scripture stories. Deborah’s lifetime of faithful service, Rachel’s true love to her family, and Isaac’s perseverance as a believer among heathen people, all speak to me here in Malaysia." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/35 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"To protect His people, God commanded His children not to associate romantically with the heathen society around them. That way they could avoid compromise and mischief. But Dinah was heedless of these things. First she hung out with the young heathen ladies. But that gave opportunity for one of their popular bachelors to notice her. And he did. And the result was that she was sexually assaulted. This led to the death of her suitor and of all his town! And the effect of this slaughter was that Dinah’s whole family had to pack up all their belongings and move far away where they would not be in danger from a war of revenge. I finished my time as a student at the Institute of East Asia studies a few months ago. Now I am working as a single young lady surrounded by heathen men. I learned that I should be careful in choosing friends. I should listen to God’s word because I can see that one sin will lead to another. Therefore, I want to have a close relationship with God always so that I can hear His voice when He warns me about the danger that faces me. Amen." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/34 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"To see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably.” What a powerful sentiment! To Jacob, a restored relationship felt like being in God’s presence. Christ-followers are called to be the face of God to others. Our relationships are to be so loving and grace-fueled that when people are around us they feel like they are experiencing God’s presence. The state of your relationships reveals the state of your heart. And the state of your heart will reveal itself on your face. Ellen White once wrote that people have an atmosphere around them that influences others. Today, science reveals that a person’s heartbeat will register on another person’s brainwaves up to 10 feet away. If your heartbeat is accelerated due to stress or anger, it registers on a person’s brain. What a powerful influence our emotions and thoughts have on others, for good or for evil. We either reveal God’s love or distort His heart. Scarred hearts, broken by sin and destructive relationships, are limping through life, looking for someone who cares. How will your face make them feel? Will they see the face of God in you?" โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/33 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Could it be that the battle you are fighting will lead to a blessing? It might not feel like it right now. It certainly didn’t to Jacob on that dark, lonely night. Beset by fear and distress over looming threats from Esau’s army, Jacob was all alone by the river Jabbok. Note to the wise . . . God tends to show up when we are most alone. Suddenly, Jacob began to wrestle with a “man.” Eventually, Jacob figured out that his opponent was heaven-sent. Refusing to give up, he said, “I won’t let you go.” He knew that a blessing would come from the wrestling.
And it did. . .Jacob had struggled with both God and people, but he overcame. What you are wrestling with God over? What battles are you facing with people? Wrestling matches with God and others often leaves emotional and spiritual limps. You may be scarred from battles you have fought. Your current battle may seem lost. Just don’t let go of Christ. Cling to Him until the blessings flow. Remember this: Out of suffering come the strongest souls. God’s wounded often make His best soldiers.
Our greatest blessings come from our deepest struggles.”
Abraham knew about God's mercy and justice. Do we understand it?" โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/32 Our accounts in other social networks:
