In the early 1860s, there was a gold-prospecting camp near Sacramento called Roaring Camp. It was comprised of only men except for one lone woman—Cherokee Sal. The story is told that this woman became pregnant and bore a son, but she herself died in childbirth. Heartbroken, the men decided to raise the child themselves, and that’s when the miracle transformation began. That tiny defenseless child changed the men of Roaring Camp from unruly, unkempt drunkards, to clean, respectable men. This month we remember another child born in humble circumstances—a child who changed not a camp, a town, or even a country—but the whole world. Because when Jesus comes into the heart, He changes everything. That is our message. The light that shines from Bethlehem to the Cross is what guides Adventist World Radio today. And the hope of His soon return is the best news of all! Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU9Xu-D1B8U
January 2021 President’s Report
There is a story that has been passed down in my family through the years that is very precious to us. My German great-grandparents migrated to America from the Volga River in Southern Russia and settled in a farming community in central Oklahoma. Soon after, in 1889, they learned the Sabbath truth from an evangelistic series in their area, and embraced the Adventist message wholeheartedly. Nine years later, my great-grandfather became ill, and as he lay dying, he shared a dream with his family. He was in heaven and Jesus spoke to him and said, “Tell your family that they should get ready, because I’m coming soon.” His wife, my great-grandmother Susanna, asked him, “How soon?” And he responded, “I don’t know; it seems like in 100 years or so.” That was 1898, and today it’s “100 years or so.” My grandmother Mollie was a young girl then, and she never forgot that message. She passed it to my mother, who passed it down to me, and I’ve shared it with my children, and now with you. We know Jesus is coming soon—the signs are everywhere! And there’s no place I’d rather be than right here at Adventist World Radio sharing this wonderful news with the world! —Duane McKey, President Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTrJhLwhOPI
February 2021 President’s Report
Bob was an intrepid mountain logger, fearless and daring—a real man’s man. He had no use for religion or the things of God, so when his boss asked him an innocuous question, he was surprised by what happened next. Now, Bob’s boss wasn’t a religious man either, so when he asked Bob to explain the Bible text where Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?” it bothered Bob that he should have to explain something he knew nothing about. Yet all throughout the day, he found himself mulling over the question. After work, on his way home, he accidentally ran over a chicken. On any other day, Bob wouldn’t have cared. He would’ve simply thrown the animal in the bed of his pickup and had the bird for dinner! But instead, he stopped the truck and went in search of the owner to pay for the chicken. What was happening to him? He couldn’t understand it. Watch the video below to learn the rest of the story. God is working in people’s lives all around the world. His influence is more powerful than we often realize—stronger than any evil the devil may throw our way. That’s the message we must share, and that’s what AWR is all about! We are all called to answer the question, “Who do you say that I am?” May our answer be, “You are the Son of God who died for my sins.” —Duane McKey MB01LQOMIVDALRP Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWxDX90F7hk
March 2021 President’s Report: “Where Missionaries Can’t Go . . .”
Do you remember where you were 50 years ago? Perhaps not even born yet, but it was in 1971 when Adventist World Radio broadcast its first program into the 10/40 window—an area of the world closed to the preaching of the gospel. For the first time, millions of people had the chance to hear the name of Jesus and understand the plan of salvation. Attempts had been made for years to reach this cluster of countries—both communist and Muslim—with little success. Naysayers said it couldn’t be done and that the project would be too huge and too costly. But with God, all things are possible! Today, more than 1,000 radio stations and studios—and the constant flow of testimonies of lives changed—attest to the power of radio when used in the service of God. Many of these countries remain closed, but our radio waves continue to enter unfettered, reaching the most remote and difficult corners of the world—because radio knows no walls, no borders and no limits! Thank you for supporting the work of Adventist World Radio. When we work together for the salvation of others, miracles happen! —Duane McKey, President Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xzo1RpTN3A
