President’s Report | February 2021
Bob was an intrepid mountain logger, fearless and daring—a real man’s man. He had no use for religion or the things of God, so when his boss asked him an innocuous question, he was surprised by what happened next. Now, Bob’s boss wasn’t a religious man either, so when he asked Bob to explain the Bible text where Jesus asks, “Who do you say that I am?” it bothered Bob that he should have to explain something he knew nothing about. Yet all throughout the day, he found himself mulling over the question. After work, on his way home, he accidentally ran over a chicken. On any other day, Bob wouldn’t have cared. He would’ve simply thrown the animal in the bed of his pickup and had the bird for dinner! But instead, he stopped the truck and went in search of the owner to pay for the chicken. What was happening to him? He couldn’t understand it. Watch the video below to learn the rest of the story. God is working in people’s lives all around the world. His influence is more powerful than we often realize—stronger than any evil the devil may throw our way. That’s the message we must share, and that’s what AWR is all about! We are all called to answer the question, “Who do you say that I am?” May our answer be, “You are the Son of God who died for my sins.” —Duane McKey MB01LQOMIVDALRP Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWxDX90F7hk
One Little Island, One Big Problem
Danawan is one of the smallest of the 7,000 islands in the archipelago that comprises the Philippines. We weren’t aware of its existence until about three years ago, when our radio station in Mindoro began receiving phone calls from the island every day! They were coming from a community of seven families that call this island’s shoreline home—and they were all listening to Adventist World Radio! The truths were new to them, and they had many questions. We immediately sent a Bible instructor to the island to hold a two-week evangelistic series. It was a wonderful time of fellowship as together the whole village learned the amazing Bible truths about Jesus and His soon return. But there was a pressing problem on the island. Watch the video to find out what happened next, and how we were able to help these precious people. By God’s grace, today this island village is transformed—in more ways than one! —Duane McKey, President Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWJLFQIEH5Y
President’s Report | January 2021
There is a story that has been passed down in my family through the years that is very precious to us. My German great-grandparents migrated to America from the Volga River in Southern Russia and settled in a farming community in central Oklahoma. Soon after, in 1889, they learned the Sabbath truth from an evangelistic series in their area, and embraced the Adventist message wholeheartedly. Nine years later, my great-grandfather became ill, and as he lay dying, he shared a dream with his family. He was in heaven and Jesus spoke to him and said, “Tell your family that they should get ready, because I’m coming soon.” His wife, my great-grandmother Susanna, asked him, “How soon?” And he responded, “I don’t know; it seems like in 100 years or so.” That was 1898, and today it’s “100 years or so.” My grandmother Mollie was a young girl then, and she never forgot that message. She passed it to my mother, who passed it down to me, and I’ve shared it with my children, and now with you. We know Jesus is coming soon—the signs are everywhere! And there’s no place I’d rather be than right here at Adventist World Radio sharing this wonderful news with the world! —Duane McKey, President Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTrJhLwhOPI
A ‘Glorious Morn’ in 2020
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySA5BfeTylU
The world hasn’t had much to celebrate this year. Weary with care and worry, it has never felt the need of a Savior more. That’s why Christmas is so meaningful to us this year. The words of the old song, “O Holy Night,” written more than 170 years ago, say it best: “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices / For yonder lies a new and glorious morn . . .” That thrilling hope is what guides us at Adventist World Radio, and today we can rejoice and “fall on our knees” in gratitude for what God has done. It has truly been a year of miracles. This Sabbath is AWR World Baptism Day (more information below). People in countries all around the world will rejoice as they begin a new life in Jesus. And if that’s not a cause for celebration, I don’t know what is! In this short video, members of our AWR administration team share a few of their favorite stories from the past year. We love sharing what God has done! Thank you for making these stories possible—for helping us share this precious message as together we look to that “glorious morn!” —Duane McKey, President Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySA5BfeTylU
