One thing we especially enjoy during our staff meetings at Adventist World Radio is recounting the stories we receive on a daily basis from around the world. There is rejoicing and praise—and sometimes tears—as we share what God is doing and the lives that are being changed through the ministry of AWR. Namibia (Part One): The son of a priest whose life spiraled out of control after his sister’s death, but now is a powerful evangelist for Jesus. Not long ago, someone asked me, “What difference does it make which day I worship God? After all, they’re all His days!” The problem is, when we ask the wrong question, we may end up with the wrong answer. Because the question I ask myself is: “What does God require of me? What is His preference in all things—including in how I worship?” Once we ask that question—and propose in our hearts to follow Him no matter what our opinion, our upbringing, or our tradition may be, He will guide us to all truth. As a result of AWR’s recent online evangelistic series, Unlocking Bible Prophecies 2.0, we’ve been receiving more questions about the Sabbath than ever before. We are told that “the Sabbath question is to be the issue in the great final conflict in which all the world will act a part.” (Counsels for the Church, p. 334) This means it’s imperative that we get it right—our lives may depend on it! Like the sower in the parable, we throw out the seed. Some may fall on hard or rocky ground, and some among the thorns, but some are finding fertile soil and bearing fruit for eternity. When Jesus spoke to his disciples about end-time events, He mentioned a sign that can’t be overlooked. He said the gospel would be “preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations.” What seemed impossible just a few years ago has become a reality—the gospel to the whole world is not a future event anymore—it’s being preached right now! Adventist World Radio is launching the Three Angels’ Messages through the airwaves—and on all social media platforms—24 hours a day, seven days a week! These messages go everywhere air goes, covering the whole world. We never know who’s listening until we receive unexpected news from the most remote and impossible areas. Last week we learned something astounding—the dictator of an unnamed country is watching AWR—and now his Commander General has joined in, along with the witch he hired to protect him! In the early 1860s, there was a gold-prospecting camp near Sacramento called Roaring Camp. It was comprised of only men except for one lone woman—Cherokee Sal. The story is told that this woman became pregnant and bore a son, but she herself died in childbirth. Heartbroken, the men decided to raise the child themselves, and that’s when the miracle transformation began. That tiny defenseless child changed the men of Roaring Camp from unruly, unkempt drunkards, to clean, respectable men. This month we remember another child born in humble circumstances—a child who changed not a camp, a town, or even a country—but the whole world. Because when Jesus comes into the heart, He changes everything. That is our message. The light that shines from Bethlehem to the Cross is what guides Adventist World Radio today. There is a story that has been passed down in my family through the years that is very precious to us. My German great-grandparents migrated to America from the Volga River in Southern Russia and settled in a farming community in central Oklahoma. Soon after, in 1889, they learned the Sabbath truth from an evangelistic series in their area, and embraced the Adventist message wholeheartedly. Nine years later, my great-grandfather became ill, and as he lay dying, he shared a dream with his family. He was in heaven and Jesus spoke to him and said, “Tell your family that they should get ready, because I’m coming soon.” His wife, my great-grandmother Susanna, asked him, “How soon?” And he responded, “I don’t know; it seems like in 100 years or so.” That was 1898, and today it’s “100 years or so.” My grandmother Mollie was a young girl then, and she never forgot that message. She passed it to my mother, who passed it down to me, and I’ve shared it with my children, and now with you. We know Jesus is coming soon—the signs are everywhere!
