Sunday: Restoring the Fallen

September 16, 2017 By admin

While Paul has lofty expectations for the nature of the Christian life  ( Gal. 5:16 ) , his counsel to the believers in  Galatians 6:1  also is refreshingly realistic. Humans are not perfect, and even the most dedicated Christians are not immune from mistakes. Image © Review and Herald Publishing Assn.

Living By The Spirit – Hit the Mark

September 13, 2017 By admin

He was an innocent man condemned to die. To ensure his execution, on his last night of life he was locked deep within prison walls, chained between two guards.  His crime? He was an ardent disciple of Christ

Thursday: The Way to Victory

September 13, 2017 By admin

Although an inward conflict between the flesh and the Spirit always will rage in the heart of every believer, the Christian life does not have to be dominated by defeat, failure, and sin. Image © Matthew Philleo Goodsalt.com According to  Galatians 5:16-26 , what is the key to living a life where the Spirit reigns over the flesh? Galatians 5:16-26  contains five key verbs that describe the type of life in which the Spirit reigns. First, the believer needs to “walk” in the Spirit (vs. 16).

12: Living by the Spirit – Discussion Starters

September 12, 2017 By admin

Living by the Spirit.  Did you notice the introduction’s account of how the words of the Christian hymn, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by Robert Robinson were changed? I was relieved to see that in the Adventist church hymnal the author’s words in the third stanza remain intact: “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.” Think about it. Do you agree that the author’s words say something important about how you struggle in your Christian life? Walking in the Spirit

Singing with Inspiration – Lesson 12: Living by the Spirit

September 12, 2017 By admin

We open our singing time with Hymn 334, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” as is noted in the very first sentence of the lesson pamphlet this week. Sundays’ study of ‘Walking with the Spirit’ is unpacked in the following hymns: Hymn 315, “O for a Closer Walk!” Hymn 544, “O Let Me Walk With Thee” Hymn 574, “O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee” From Monday’s lesson, I am thankful that we have a Saviour who has walked the path of conflict before us: Hymn 151, “Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley” and I will continue to pray Hymn 624, “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me” . Galations 5:22 ( Wednesday ) gives us a list of virtues, Fruits of the Spirit, the first of which is love. There are many hymns that reflect this topic with the first being Hymn 579, “ ‘Tis Love That Makes Us Happy”
