Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Joseph was very happy with the arrival of his extended family. After the initial festivities, he decided to help them with the choice of a place to live. In view of Pharaoh's appreciation of Joseph, the probability was great that he would offer to his brothers important offices in the service of the king, but this would expose them to idolatrous and corrupting influences. Thus Joseph instructed his brethren to tell Pharaoh that they were shepherds, even though they knew that the Egyptians considered shepherds to be a degrading activity. When the king knew that Joseph's brothers were shepherds, he gave him permission to establish his relatives in whatever place he deemed most convenient. Joseph chose Goshen as a suitable place, because it was provided with good pastures and plenty of water. There his relatives could worship God far from the corrupting influences of the Egyptian culture. Joseph had in mind the best for his family. In the same way, we should choose places of residence and professional activities that are favorable to our children's development and spiritual well-being, far from the demoralizing customs of the world. Lord, help us to be prudent and wise like Joseph!" โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/47 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Genesis 46 brings the story of Joseph full circle. Long ago, Jacob’s mourning over his dead son turned to a dull ache that wouldn’t go away. Now, there’s a huge lump in his throat as he learns his son is alive after all. But will they still have a relationship after all these years? And the promise God made to his family – was it imaginary? Jacob offers a sacrifice to God before the trip, but he is nervous. That night, God speaks to Jacob and tells him not to be afraid because the promise still stands (vs. 3). Joseph and Jacob have a wonderful reunion – Jacob thought his son was dead, but he is alive! They embrace each other and weep together for a long time. Joseph advises his family to tell the Egyptians that they are shepherds, a profession he says Egyptians think is an “abomination,” so they can live away from the Egyptians in Goshen. While it is good land, they are also able to live separate from the religious and cultural influences of the region and more freely practice their faith.
It will be hundreds of years before the family leaves Egypt but God will still keep His promise." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/46 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Joseph started with dreams of greatness only to be thrown into a hole in the ground and sold into slavery by his brothers. He became the head servant for a government official, only to be falsely accused of rape and thrown into prison. Now he’s the second most powerful man in Egypt, his brothers groveling at his feet. It’s payback time. Except he doesn’t take revenge. Instead, Joseph looks back at his life and, for the first time, sees the big picture. Through all the struggles, he sees that God has been working out His will. The slavery, the prison, the power –all the pieces now make sense. God has given Joseph the task of preserving the promise that He made to Abraham (vs. 7). God hasn’t forgotten about Joseph – God was at work the entire time. Maybe you’ve had a lifelong dream of doing something great for God. But your plans have been derailed and you’ve hit a dead end. Maybe it seems like God has given up on you. But God hasn’t forgotten the dream He put in your heart – it’s His dream too. Just like He did with Joseph, God is fighting your battles, making His purpose become reality in your life." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/45 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"Chapter 44 has a riveting climax to the suspense that has been building through the last two chapters. The disappearance of Joseph many years earlier had brought much pain and guilt to the household. His brothers had been cruel and deceptive. Now the tables were turned. Benjamin was in trouble. Judah had given his word to protect him, but would he do it at the expense of his own life? Judah’s fervent appeal for Benjamin’s freedom and his offer to trade places with him is heartrendingly beautiful. He who once encouraged his brothers to sell Joseph into slavery was now offering himself as a slave to keep Benjamin free and to spare his father from pain. God left us an example in this story of the amazing transformation He can do in a life devoted to Him. The brothers, who had once been selfish, jealous, and vengeful, had become humble, caring, and loyal. God has the same power today to transform your life as He did then to transform the lives of Joseph's brothers." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/44 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Edwin Reynolds:
"In the long story of Genesis 43 I see some things that remind me of Revelation. For instance, the word “abomination” is first used in this chapter. That is how the Egyptians viewed shepherds, and it led to a separation into two groups. Thankfully God didn’t see the Hebrews as abominable. In Revelation 21:27, we find the last usage of the word– those who work abomination are not found in the book of life. The scene of Joseph eating with his brothers reminds me of that wonderful marriage supper of the Lamb where the chosen ones shall gather at the long silver table to eat food served by King Jesus. And at that table the ungodly will find no place. They can’t enter Heaven because they did things God calls an “abomination.” Also, it was awesome to see Reuben and Judah willing to sacrifice so much to save their little brother. They passed the test Joseph designed and they didn’t even know they were being tested! Their volunteer spirit reminds me of this verse: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. (Luke 9:24)" โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/43 Our accounts in other social networks:
