**To share this story: For several years the Paradise Valley Church, near San Diego, California, has been serving immigrant populations in several ways. The ministries include a food pantry, classes in English as a second language, a thrift store, and a community garden.  Friendships For Hope , now charitable nonprofit corporation, grew out of the food pantry ministry. Potomac Conference Family Mourns Death of One of Its Members Serving as a Missionary Overseas

**To share this story: Potomac Conference President Bill Miller releases the following statement:    Paul Penaranda and his family   Staunton, Va. — Our hearts are heavy as we’ve learned of the sudden and untimely death of one of Potomac’s shining lights, Paul Penaranda. Before leaving for his overseas assignment, Paul was a member of the Leesburg (Va.) church where he actively worked with the Pathfinders, leading several club members to baptism.

Adventist Volunteer Services Worker Remembered

**To share this story:   Adventist Volunteer Services worker Paul Penaranda is remembered during a memorial service at the South Philippine Union Conference Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sabbath, April 8. Photo by Roy Perez     On April 1, 2017, Paul Penaranda, an Adventist Volunteer Service (AVS) volunteer passed away while being treated for an illness in the intensive care unit of Capitol Medical University Center in the Philippines. The cause of death is currently unknown. Penaranda was 45 years old, and is survived by his wife, Sheryl, and three children, Joshua, Jared, and Rachel. A memorial service was held at the South Philippine Union Conference church on Sabbath, April 8
