Disease may kill thousands of people, but thousands more died because they were overwhelmed by fear. When we look to the future with fear expecting the worst, rather than with confidence expecting the best, we've become filled with anxiety and paralyzed with worry. From the time we are born until the day we die fear often casted dark shadow on our lives. Fear crashes our spirit, breaks down our immune system, weakens our will and render us powerless in the battle with the enemy. Fear strangles our joy.
Dealing with fear, what can deliver us from our worst fears? Or Who can deliver us from those fears?

Each day, we are witnesses to a chaotic and complicated world. Despite all these troubling circumstances, the good news is always "refreshing to the bones" (Proverbs 15:30). Here are some revitalizing updates from the Seventh-day Adventist community: In California, USA, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency donated 1.6 million medical-grade masks to Loma Linda University Health. The effort supports the hospital's ongoing battle against COVID-19, especially in protecting frontline workers. In Monterrey, Mexico, members of the Vértice Seventh-day Adventist Church continue to impact their community. For nearly a year, the Padrinos project has been distributing food packages and school kits to families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project intends to provide for the more specific health needs of the residents. In Indonesia, ADRA was quick to assist the West Sulawesi region after the area was devastated by three earthquakes January 14-16. ADRA distributed shelter kits to approximately 2,000 people, and the team continues to collect data on additional pressing needs of survivors. Have you ever felt alone, as if you are the only one standing up for God? In the Bible, there are several examples of people who experienced such feelings, and more. Perhaps one of the most interesting is that of the prophet Elijah—God’s faithful prophet who served during a very discouraging time of apostasy and rebellion in Israel. King Ahab was on the throne, with his wicked wife, Jezebel, by his side. Perhaps the most well-known story detailing Elijah’s amazing experience at Mt. Carmel is recorded in 1 Kings 18. Elijah commanded all Israel to come to the top of the mountain, where they would witness a miraculous demonstration of God’s power in the showdown between Baal and Jehovah. All day the prophets of Baal pled with their false god, crying, screaming, and cutting themselves in the hope that their wooden god would consume the sacrifice laid upon his altar. But, to no avail. And then there was Elijah, bravely standing alone for the one true God—Jehovah. Elijah cried out to the people, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him. But the people answered him not a word” (1 Kings 18:21). No one, apparently, was willing to stand with Elijah in acknowledging the only true God. He stood alone. And yet he wasn’t really alone. We are told that “Above and around him are the protecting hosts of heaven, angels that excel in strength. Unashamed, unterrified, the prophet stands before the multitude, fully aware of his commission to execute the divine command” (p. 147). At last, after he has painstakingly rebuilt the altar of God, laid the sacrifice upon it, and had it doused with torrents of water three times, does the prophet pray, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again” (1 Kings 18:36,37). Instantly, fire came down from heaven, consuming the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the dust, and licking up the water surrounding the altar. Elijah’s prayer was heard—and answered. Have you ever felt as if you are standing alone for God? Be assured that even though it might not seem like it, you are not alone. God is with you. His angels surround you. Ruth did not have it easy. A recent widow, an outsider to the Israelite community and a woman seemingly unable to fend for herself in those times – there were plenty of reasons why life was difficult for her. So it would have been surprising to Naomi when Ruth said she would stay by her side and go wherever she went and worship the same God, Jehovah, that Naomi worshipped. Thousands of years down the track, what can we learn from this display of Ruth putting God first? Does faithfulness pay off?
