Commentary by Kathlyn Mayer:
"It’s easy for us, the readers, to inwardly chastise Sarai and Abram for being impatient. After all, we know that in five chapters Isaac will be born and then the couple gets their long awaited happy ending. However when it comes to our own lives, we often struggle with the same basic challenge of the Christian walk—waiting. Waiting to see God’s promises come to fruition can feel like one of the hardest periods in our life. From our viewpoint the wait appears long, and we justify fulfilling the promise in our own way. We think maybe God wants us to do something to make things happen. When we don’t trust God’s timing, we hurt ourselves and we inevitably also affect the lives of those around us. Yet we serve a God who doesn’t abandon us to our hasty choices.
God didn’t sugarcoat to Hagar what Ishmael’s future relationships were going to become as a result of his parents’ decisions and his own. At the same time God chose to bless the child, as Abram’s son, with many descendants. God hears our cries of misery, whether they are of our own or others’ making. He doesn’t turn a deaf ear." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/16 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Kathlyn Mayer:
"Abram is just like us. When we read the Bible promises we too wonder how we can know they will be fulfilled. In examining God’s response to Abram’s questions, we see God’s patience. God humbled Himself, reaching out to Abram on his level. When God asked for the specific animals, Abram understood what God was doing. God was following the cultural traditions of a contract between two entities of Abram’s day. He was making a blood pact. The flame of God passing between the animals was God’s promise He would come through for Abram. When Abram was sleeping, God revealed to him the future of his descendants. God told him it would take centuries before the promise would be realized. God chose to bring Abram into His circle of knowledge, as a friend. The same God of Abram is our God today. Through Jesus’ death on the cross we have our own blood pact with God. His resurrection is our assurance that God is alive and has redeemed us. Through the scriptures God laid out the future of the human race. This culminates in the promise that He will come back to take us home to heaven. โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/14 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Mark Finley:
"Lot’s choice to settle near the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah placed him in serious danger. When Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, united with his heathen allies and attacked Sodom, Lot was taken captive. Hearing the tragic news, Abraham marshaled his forces to deliver Lot. It is remarkable that Abraham did not lay blame on Lot for the choice he made to settle near Sodom. Neither did he exhibit an attitude of superiority and let Lot suffer the consequences of his poor choices. There are times that love acts recklessly. Love pursues, seeks, and wins back those who make poor choices. Certainly there are times for people to face the result of their choices but there are also times for love to act in spite of the choices others make. It is well to note that when Abraham returned from the battle, he gave a tithe of the spoils to Melchizedek, the “priest of God the Most High”. In faithfully returning tithe, Abraham acknowledged the blessings of God upon his life. There is one other remarkable act of Abraham in this chapter we must not miss. Abraham refused to take even “a sandal strap” of the spoils for himself. He gave everything his men captured to the King of Sodom. Unselfish hearts and giving spirits open the channels of heaven’s storehouse of blessings to flow to us." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/14 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Mark Finley:
"Genesis 13 begins with Abraham worshipping at an altar (verse 3) and it ends with Abraham worshipping at an altar.(verse 18) Although Abraham, in his humanness, exhibited a lack of faith when he was in Egypt, he did not give up his faith. He remained loyal to God. He had frailties like each one of us but his heart was committed to God. His mistakes did not discourage him to give up his faith and neither should ours. Abraham’s unbelief in Egypt led him to deeper dependence upon God at Bethel. When a conflict arose over land and water rights, Abraham said to his nephew, Lot, “Please let there be no strife between me and you.” (Verse 8) He then graciously gave Lot the choice of the land he desired. Abraham unselfishly disadvantaged himself for the sake of peace. Lot chose what he believed was the best land bordering the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and it proved a disaster for his family. Abraham’s kind, giving spirit prepared him to receive God’s abundance. Heaven’s richest blessings flow to giving hearts." โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/13 Our accounts in other social networks:

Commentary by Mark Finley:
"The Lord’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:2 reveals another eternal truth which is centuries old. “I will make you a great nation, I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” The blessings which God gives us are not to be selfishly hoarded. We are blessed to bless. As we share the blessings that God has given us, we bring glory to His name. “And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”(Verse 3) God blessed Abraham so he could bless others. He blesses us so that our families can be blessed through us. We become a channel of heaven’s blessings to those around us. The path of success and the path of failure lie very close together. Abraham compromised his integrity by declaring that Sarah, his wife, was his sister. His lack of faith almost resulted in tragedy. As Pharaoh correctly stated, “I might have taken her as my wife.” (Verse 17) Abraham’s unbelief may have caused him to lose the one he cherished most. Years later God brought Abraham to a similar test of faith. Would he now believe God that Sarah would conceive in old age? When we fail at one point, God brings us to that same place again and again. The lessons in the school of the Lord cannot be skipped or omitted. Thank God Abraham passed the test and we can too. โค๏ธ Jump to Daily Bible Reading https://www.revivalandreformation.org/bhp/en/bible/gen/12 Our accounts in other social networks:
