Lesson 6 Commentary by Carl Cosaert at Good Word

August 2, 2017 By admin

“If God saves people by faith alone, why did He give the Law in the first place?” So begins Carl Cosaert in his discussion of this week’s lesson with colleagues at Walla Walla University. ( Audio presentation of 14 min 11 sec. ) Listen for a modern illustration of the relationship of the Law to the Promise.  What resonates with me most in this presentation is the question of whether it is really possible to appreciate Christ’s sacrifice without first attempting to keep the Law on our own.

Since They Are Wrong, We Must Be Right: A commentary on the 2017 Faith and Science Conference in Saint George, Utah.

August 2, 2017 By admin

By John McLarty, August 2, 2017:      During my college years (1970-1975) and through the next decade or so, I imagined Adventist faith as a movement committed to truth. We had a body of explicit theology that united us, of course, but it was not unusual to hear church members, including clergy, say, “I’ll be an […]

A Call to Compassion Toward the Immigrant: A Voted Statement

August 2, 2017 By admin

**To share this story: The following is a voted statement by the Hispanic Advisory of the North American Division, calling for compassion toward immigrants. Whereas,      the current climate in our country and the world has produced worries, divisions and fears in many individuals, leading to divided families, expressions of racism, and challenges to the fulfillment of the Christian mission;   Whereas,      the Bible teaches us that God has made all mankind of one blood (Acts 17:26), that we “are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” (Gal.

Loma Linda University Expands Nuclear Medicine Program to Bachelor’s Degree

August 2, 2017 By admin

**To share this story: Redesigned from certificate program, four-year degree meets industry’s demand; little-known profession has great opportunities for employment, salary, and service, program director says.   Photo provided by Loma Linda University Health   Loma Linda University’s  School of Allied Health Professions  has introduced a bachelor’s degree in nuclear medicine, expanding the program from a certificate in an effort to meet the needs of the industry that is increasingly seeking graduates of a four-year program.   Nuclear medicine is a specialty that uses nuclear properties of radioactive and stable nuclides to make diagnostic evaluations of a body’s physiological conditions on a cellular level. Unlike an X-ray, which uses radiation to scan a body, nuclear medicine uses radiation from a person’s body to detect things on a microscopic level, such as tumors or abnormal vascular or cardiac function.   The nuclear medicine program at the School of Allied Health Professions includes computed tomography (CT), which means graduates can also sit for the CT boards.

iBelieve Bible Witnesses to Young People Where They Are

August 2, 2017 By admin

**To share this story:  By Adam Fenner   Photo by Dan Weber     The foundational impetus behind the North American Division’s iBelieve Bible Study is to witness to young people where they are, which is in the digital realm. The iBelieve Bible Study is a free online curriculum designed to strengthen the faith of youth and young adults in and outside the Seventh-day Adventist Church. iBelieve Bible is made up of four main components that are released incrementally throughout the week. This includes short blog posts, short videos, social media interaction, and online Bible studies. Only partially an event and community occasion like traditional Sabbath school and Bible studies, iBelieve Bible is a regular interjection of biblical themes and topics into the daily lives of people that culminates on Friday afternoons, leading up to and in preparation for the Sabbath.
